LivingWorks Education Inc. is pleased to announce a new grant and promotions program initiative. The goals of this program are to support the work of individuals and groups in the United States and Canada to create suicide-safer communities while growing the number of LivingWorks trainers.
For the period of January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2012, grants will be provided to selected groups and communities. All suicide prevention gatekeeper training projects are to be completed within two years of being approved. Grants must be applied for through an application process developed, managed, and evaluated by the LivingWorks Marketing and Communications Committee.
Applications must demonstrate that certain requirements are met, including: grants must be applied to training directly targeted to suicide prevention or intervention as provided in the LivingWorks suite of programs:
The organization or individual must already be a Suicide Prevention caregiver with an ASIST or safeTALK training certificate or would like to be an ASIST or a safeTALK trainer.
If you are a registered charity or a non-profit (501 (C) 3), you must be eligible to issue official tax receipts for donations.
A donation must benefit the community to become suicide-safer through training activities.
The organization must reflect the principles and objectives of building a LivingWorks trainer network, which reflect the following:
Intervention skills are known and can be learned.
Large numbers of people can be taught intervention skills.
The organization must be able to demonstrate that it has an effective plan for building a LivingWorks trainer network, based on the following LivingWorks Core Beliefs & Principles:
LivingWorks believes that almost everyone, quite apart from any professional qualifications, can learn intervention skills—given the right learning technology. Thus, there is potentially a very large pool of people who could help.
To keep the costs of teaching manageable, local trainers are taught the various programs and they cascade intervention skills into a community.
To ensure that helpers learn the same skills across presentations, the program needs to be standardized. To ensure communication among helpers, training should feature generic language and concepts understandable by everyone. To maintain fidelity requires a central agency committed to ongoing development and quality control.
With all of these supports, the initial, front-end investment in preparing local trainers to teach intervention skills can be expensive. The long-term benefit—which is potentially very large—depends upon enrolling the best local trainers and supporting them throughout their training career.
The LivingWorks grant application(s) do not apply to ICC Group Members.
Grant applications are for a maximum of $10,000, if you or your organization are asking for more than this amount you may want to seek alternative funding.
Organizations applying for grant(s) and receiving monies from LivingWorks Education Inc. must be able to effectively measure their programs, submit a report to LivingWorks of the activities taken and achieved.
Requests can be for financial, product or in-kind contributions.
All grantees must acknowledge the LivingWorks contribution, sponsorship or scholarship of grant(s) in their project or training. Download guidelines for the use of its logos and programs.
