"Suicide Survivors: Those Left Behind" on
the Discovery Channel
Dr. Frank Campbell, LivingWorks Coaching Trainer and Director
of the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center (BRCIC), will be featured in
the documentary "Suicide Survivors: Those Left Behind" — one
of the few stories the Discovery Channel chooses to present each year because
of the social issue's great need to be examined. It will air on September
14th from 6pm–7pm EST and 5pm–6pm CDT. It is expected to be an
international release. Contact your local Discovery Channel provider
for times in other areas.
The program is enlightening, heart-warming and inspiring. Thanks
in advance for helping get the word out, and please record it to share with
family, friends, fellow students and others. We have hope that the powerful
voice of survivors can change the postvention efforts in our world.
About the documentary
- Narrated by Mariette Hartley (author of Breaking the Silence, and well

was sponsored by AFSP

as Paul and Judy Tunkle, Mark Wilson, Buddy and Betty Knox, Jim and Edith

and Frank Campbell
- Recognizes the BRCIC for developing a service known as Postvention
- All the survivors highlighted on the program have received help from
BRCIC
About the BRCIC postvention service
- Literally whatever time of the day or night, BRCIC volunteers—most often
survivors themselves—go to the scene of a suicide to be resources for
the devastated loved ones of the deceased
- Postvention is coordinated with the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's
Office
- The volunteers (tagged the LOSS team for Local
Outreach to Suicide Survivors), have proved invaluable in assisting
those left behind
- The service reaches out to suicide survivors so they can begin receiving
healing support within 40 days instead of the traditional approach. That
approach averaged 4.5 years before survivors would begin searching for
coping skills to heal the deep, still existent pain, confusion and unanswered
questions.
