2005 World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD)

September 10, 2005: "Prevention of Suicide is everybody's business"

Despite the complexity and severity of the problem, suicide prevention cannot be seen as the responsibility of experts alone; rather, preventing suicide is everyone’s business. The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO), invites the public, communities, societies, individuals, professionals and volunteers to conduct activities on this day to promote and demonstrate our joint responsibility to save lives that would otherwise be lost to suicide.

Here are jut a few LivingWorks events that have been organized around the world in support of WSPD…

Suicide awareness exploration workshop

You are invited to attend a free, suicide awareness exploration workshop conducted by the Central Vancouver Island Crisis Society on Friday, September 9th, 2005 in support of WSPD. The suicideTALK workshop is an exploration of the question, “Should we talk about suicide?” Participants will explore fundamental attitudinal issues about suicide. Clarifying your views on these issues builds a solid foundation for future contributions to suicide prevention. There will be lots of opportunities to explore some of the ways you might choose to help prevent suicide in our community. (Please note this is not a workshop to learn suicide intervention skills.)

Workshop Date: Friday, September 9th, 2005
Time: 1:00–3:30 p.m.
Location: 30-1708 Bowen Road (Pine Tree Square), Central Vancouver Island, BC Canada

Light refreshments provided. Seating is limited to 30 participants. First come, first served. Register early to ensure your seat by calling the Central Vancouver Island Crisis Society at +1 (250) 753-2495, or to be put on a wait list for future workshops.
