National Training Awards 2007

[Scotland] In April this year Choose Life submitted an entry to the National Training Awards (NTA) based on the delivery of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) in Scotland. Since the first Scottish workshops were held in Shetland in 2003, more than 9000 have been trained in ASIST, a figure which has increased by a further 1000 since March to date.  There are now in excess of 200 trainers all over Scotland, with each local authority having a minimum of two.

In July Choose Life hosted a validation visit, where two NTA judges visited our central office in Glasgow to hear evidence in support of the application. The judges also had the opportunity to speak with trainers and people who had been trained in ASIST to find out how the training had benefited them.

Choose Life has now been nominated as a finalist for this year’s National Training Awards. The Scottish finals will be held on Thursday 22 November 2007 at the Glasgow Hilton. At this ceremony, awards will be made at three levels: Highly Commended, Regional Training Award, and National Training Award.

Those finalists which are winners of a National Training Award, the highest accolade available, will then be invited to the UK Gala Ceremony in London on 13 December where the National trophy will be presented.
