Lindy Macgregor has been named the winner of Communities Matter - Individual Award in the 17th annual Suicide Prevention Australia LiFE Awards. The awards recognise excellence in suicide prevention and that is Lindy through and through.
“Lindy is a leader in suicide prevention in Australia and beyond. Her impact has been felt across communities and organisations where she has trained others to teach suicide intervention skills, introduced skills training to the Asia Pacific region, and ultimately saved lives. Lindy is a quiet achiever and incredibly hard worker and we’re proud that Lindy has been a leader at LivingWorks for more than two decades,” says Shayne Connell, CEO of LivingWorks Australia. He adds that Lindy is the reason he became involved with suicide prevention and ultimately LivingWorks. A true inspiration and role model.
Formerly CEO of Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury, in her 23-year career with LivingWorks Lindy has delivered more than 400 ASIST workshops, 100 ASIST Train the Trainer (T4T) programs, and more than 100 safeTALK workshops, as well as training 600 safeTALK trainers. She was one of the earliest ASIST trainers in Australia when it started being taught in the region in the mid-90s. And as one of the most experienced suicide intervention skills trainers in the world, she has introduced gatekeeper training across the Asia Pacific including Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, and now a pilot in China.

‘I am really very honoured to receive this award. I do this work because I love it and I believe in it—and LivingWorks programs are just the best way to learn to work together as a community to save lives,” says Lindy.
The annual LiFE Awards get nominations from across Australia and Suicide Prevention Australia noted that they were overwhelmed this year with the quality of the nominations they received this year. These awards celebrate the commitment and determination of those working towards the reduction of suicide within communities across the country.
Suicide Prevention Australia has been providing national leadership for Australia’s suicide prevention sector for more than 25 years. Their vision is a world without suicide, which parallels ours, a world free from suicide loss, and Lindy is out there every day working towards that world. Big congratulations to her and all the other deserving recipients. Read about them here.
